Fuel Cells

Overview

Fuel Cells are an electrochemical reaction device that convert fuel into DC electricity without combustion. We’ve been involved with Fuel Cells for the last 25+ years and have experience deploying a variety of Fuel Cell technologies including Solid Oxide (SOFC), Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) and Alkaline Fuel Cells (AFC) from 250W to 10kW. To-date we’ve deployed 1000+ Fuel Cell Systems.

Technologies We Offer

Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) powered by propane or natural gas can provide a reliable source of DC power by converting chemical energy into electricity. SOFCs are capable of providing days, weeks and even months of reliable, clean, extended-run backup power protection for critical infrastructure.

Alkaline Fuel Cells

Alkaline Fuel Cells (AFC) powered by industrial hydrogen or ammonia can provide a reliable source of DC power by converting chemical energy electricity. AFCs are capable of providing days, weeks and even months of reliable, zero emissions backup and prime power for critical infrastructure.

Manufacturers We Work With

Since the early 1990’s, RedHawk Energy Systems, LLC has been an instrumental leader in the design, development and deployment of a variety of Fuel Cell technologies to critical infrastructure markets like rail signaling & communication, oil & gas, telecom and government. As an independent systems integrator we have the experience and expertise to guide our customers to the fuel cell technology that best fits their individual needs, not just a one size fits all approach! We currently offer both Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) and Alkaline Fuel Cells (AFC) from the following manufacturers:

Edge Autonomy (formerly Adaptive Energy)’s Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) can seamlessly integrate with new and existing power infrastructure to provide 250 watts of extended backup power to charge (12/24/48V) battery banks. Since 2014, we’ve deployed 1000+ P250i (250W) SOFCs in the US & Canada.

GenCell Energy develops unique Alkaline Fuel Cell (AFC) solutions in the 5kW+ range. Using the ultra-reliable and exhaust-free technology that powered the American space program, GenCell Energy provides clean backup power for mission critical applications.

Markets We Serve/Applications

Fuel Cells can play an integral role for power generation in a variety of critical infrastructure markets. Our Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (250W) powered by propane or natural gas are well suited for providing extended-run backup power to charge 12/24/48 VDC battery banks and keep critical loads powered. Our Alkaline Fuel Cells (5kW+) powered by hydrogen or ammonia can provide extended-run backup or off-grid prime power to charge batteries and keep critical loads powered.
