How It Works

A wind turbine typically consists of a rotor, electric generator, and a control system. The rotor, which looks much like an airplane propellor in most cases, is turned by the wind. The rotor is connected to a shaft which either directly or through a drive mechanism turns the armature of the generator thereby creating electricity. The control system manages the interface to the load. Because of the speed variability of the wind, wind turbines have a DC power output.

Superwind GmbH was established in 2004 after four years of successful research, design and testing of its now internationally patented micro-turbine technology. Since then, thousands of commercially rated Superwind 350 (and new Superwind 1250) turbines have been quietly providing reliable, autonomous wind generated electricity to users in remote, harsh conditions on both land and at sea world-wide.

  • Auto-Feathering Blade System
    What sets the Superwind apart from other micro-wind turbines is their patented auto-feathering blade system that prevents damage to the system when wind speeds approach high levels by automatically and individually adjusting blade pitch to the wind force. When wind force lessens the blades automatically return to their normal position.
  • Dump Load Resistor System
    Superwind is one of the first and only manufacturers to incorporate a dump load resistor into their charge controller set. This allows the turbine to be left on, allowing unattended operation (making power 24/7) when sufficient wind is available. By charging batteries within the manufacturers specs and dumping the power only after the batteries are fully charged, making the Superwind truly automonous, reliable and highly efficient.
  • “Valance Verified”
    Superwind is the only micro-wind turbine to be “valance verified” – meaning it is qualified to charge lithium iron magnesium phosphate (LiFeMgPO4) batteries and energy storage systems.
  • Easy Integration w/Existing Systems
    The Superwind is designed to easily integrate with solar panels, fuel cells, stirling engines and diesel gensets.
    The intermittent nature of wind can deliver fuel conservation advantages in windy areas.
