WATT REMOTE™ Solid Oxide Fuel Cells
Overview
WATT REMOTE™ 500W & 1.25kW Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) provide a reliable source of DC power by converting chemical energy into electricity. Powered by propane, natural gas (and in the future pure hydrogen), WATT REMOTE™ SOFCs are capable of providing days, weeks and even months of reliable, clean, extended-run backup power protection for a variety of critical infrastructure needs. WATT REMOTE™ is manufactured by WATT Fuel Cell, located in Mount Pleasant, PA.
How Solid Oxide Fuel Cells Work
The WATT REMOTE™ Solid Oxide Fuel Cells are designed to work with new or existing power infrastructure including the utility grid, batteries, solar charge controllers, dc-dc converters, etc. Powered by readily available, easily transportable and low cost propane or natural gas, WATT REMOTE™ has the ability to sit in standby mode for months to years at a time, monitoring battery voltage. The WATT REMOTE™ will automatically start once the batteries dip below a pre-determined lower threshold voltage. After a 35 – 45 minute startup period, the WATT REMOTE™ will begin charging the batteries and powering the load. Once the batteries reach a pre-determined upper threshold voltage, the WATT REMOTE™ will automatically begin to cool-down and return to standby mode.
WATT REMOTE™ SOFC VS. GAS/DIESEL GENERATORS
While diesel/gas generators have been widely used for backup power generation due to their high power and low initial cost, their ongoing maintenance needs and associated costs can often be overlooked. It is essential to change the oil every few hundred hours and rebuild the engine or replace/scrap it entirely after just a few years. Furthermore, diesel/gas generators are noisy, have dirty emissions, and are prone to theft. In recent years, Solid Oxide Fuel Cells are gaining popularity as a cleaner, quieter, and more efficient backup power solution. SOFCs utilize a non-polluting electrochemical process to generate electricity. They also require ZERO maintenance, making them a more cost-effective and sustainable option for critical applications.
WATT REMOTE™ KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS
Propane or Natural Gas
WATT REMOTE™ is powered by readily available, easily transportable and low cost propane or natural gas.
The ability to run on either fuel provides flexibility without compromise.
Zero Maintenance
WATT REMOTE™ needs no oil changes, has no moving parts and requires no ongoing maintenance during their stack life. WATT REMOTE™ is impervious to time and will sit in standby mode until it is needed.
Easy Integration
WATT REMOTE™ can easily integrate with existing power infrastructure like the electric utility grid, batteries, solar & wind, solar charge controllers, DC-DC Converters, external communications, computers, modems and other electronics.
Low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
Compared to legacy gas/diesel generators that require frequent maintenance and attention, WATT REMOTE™ provides long-life power generation (3,000+ hour design) and requires zero maintenance – both key characteristics that contribute to low TCO.
Eco-Friendly & Efficient
WATT REMOTE™ is a “green”, eco-friendly alternative to legacy gas/diesel generators that are noisy and emit harmful emissions. Non-combustion SOFC technology like that of the WATT REMOTE™ combines high efficiency power generation with low emissions (No NOx or SOx).
Fully Integrated System with Outdoor Enclosure
WATT REMOTE™ can be supplied as a fully-integrated system with a NEMA-rated outdoor enclosure with input and output terminations; provisions for customer supplied propane cylinders; integrated fuel filter assembly; gas regulator, manifoldand valve assembly; multiple hinged and lockable doors and communication ports for customer interfacing.
